Classes & Parties at Home Ec

As many of you know, Home Ec, our studio space on 3rd Avenue, offers a variety of sewing classes as well as being the place where we make our own clothing line "Flirt" for our boutique on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. But did you know that we also host private parties and group classes? Well then, I suggest you read on...

Recently we held a bridal-shower-quilting-party, where the bride, her family and friends got together to celebrate, hangout and make a quilt. Every guest got their own quilt square to decorate with stitches, applique, buttons and a wide variety of beautiful fabrics to choose from. You don't need any sewing experience for this party; just a lot of imagination and some festive, creative spirit!

Once the cheese plate and the wine supply disappear and everyone has completed a square for the quilt, our Home Ec seamstresses sew it all together and the bride is presented with a beautiful, one-of-a-kind masterpiece: a quilt lovingly made by her friends and family.

In other, educational news, we have been hosting groups of teens for week long sewing camps. Our students learn how to make a cotton tote bag, a custom skirt and then get to use their new found sewing knowledge to develop a small project of their own!

If you are interested in booking a private party or class, you can always email us at flirtbrooklyn(at)earthlink.net or give us a call: 718.852.2889.

Cinderloop Tops

Cinderloop, is the work of designer Antoinette Indge. Working intuitively, the unusual details she creates are not merely ornamentation, but functional parts of the clothing's structure. They help to define a neckline or shape a bodice. Her intuitive approach results in wearable, versatile pieces with a distinctive personality.
Currently, we have these beautiful tops available in sizes small, medium, and large and in the styles you see above. Click on the photos for a more detailed view.

Patti's Pick Of The Week!

Before Netflix I used to go to the locally owned video store near my apartment to rent my VHS tapes and I'd always make a beeline for my favorite shelf: Staff Pics of the Week. With so many movies to choose from it was always so helpful to have someone boil it down for me and tell me what they thought was really worth getting and why. Not to mention that the guys and girls behind the counter at the video store really knew what they were talking about and showed me things I would have never picked up on my own. Now that I mention it I feel like I should get back in the habit of visiting my local video store for just this reason.

Anyway. . .

At Flirt, we really do love almost everything but all of us have our preferences and all of us have a different sense of style which draws each of us to covet certain pieces. Because our stock changes so regularly and is often produced in such small quantity we thought we should do our own version of that great video store shelf to draw out those special things you might not get a chance to see. So a couple times a week we'll be having the ladies at Flirt pick a favorite piece to showcase for the blog. Today, Patti not only chose a piece but showed us a few different ways it could be worn. Versatility is key.

Above: Red 1940's Blouse by Trashy Diva,
"Hot Mess" necklace by Zachary Pryor,
Melia Patent Leather Pumps by Jeffrey Campbell

Left: Blue/Black Fold and Stitch Top by Cinderloop,
Silhouette Necklace by Classic Hardware,

Right: Mama Cass Tshirt in Eggplant by
Alternative Apparel,
Spirited Dress in White by Neesh,

If you'd like more information on any of these pieces stop by Flirt in Park Slope or call us at 718-783-0364!
